A quick 729-2 review:
This is NOT the same 729-2 from the past! Not only is the
topsheet just slightly tacky when opened, the new tensor sponge is very
forgiving and is in the 38-40 degree range. It kicks hard when glued and counter
looping from mid court but still allows me to drop some of my 2550 levels
coaches serves! The glue really is noticable on the top end but does not kill
the short game and with the glue ban this rubber should become very popular.
The topsheet is supple and once the slight tack is gone you
will be surprised at the feeling you are getting from what used to be a real
rock of a sheet! Why the creative team at ZeroPong was not consulted when the
naming was at hand is beyond me as many ppl with bad memories of the old -2 will
avoid this sheet not knowing it is a very different animal!
On serves I would give it a 9 out of 10 as you can over
spin the ball!
Serve return gets better as the stick wears off so it goes
from 8 to 9.5
Opening 10, very spinny or very fast you can decide!
Looping again starts lower and goes to 9.5 or 10 with glue.
I tried to cover the bulk of the things I do with it as I
have an all around game from the forehand and have yet to see the limitations of
the rubber when compared to my level (1800-1850 ish). – Review by Loopsteady

Review by Glenn (published with

Speed and Spin and Control is rated without
speed glue in comparision to other rubbers without speed glue. I would rate
Tenergy as 9.5 or 10 for spin and NEW hard tensors as 9.5 or 10 for speed.
The Tackiness of the rubber is obvious especially for the black one. However,
this is only there initially. The tackiness disappears after time, and the
rubber becomes a grippy one that NEVER STALLS on me before. (Unlike even roxon
or an old sriver).
I rate the sponge hardess as medium compared to other Chinese rubbers. Its
pretty hard compared to tensors (yes, even the so-called hard sponged Roxon 500
kind).
What i like about this rubber is the excellent control and many gears it has. I
think it misses a top gear that would be there if you speed-glued it, but its
sufficient when combined with a fast blade close distance to mid distance. One
would have to generate his own power to take full advantage of this rubber.
A very durable rubber at a cheap price. Outstanding control. Definitely more
than a match for srivers to me.
(not for those looking for extremely fast speed-glue effect rubber - this rubber
doesn't have any)
